The Deer HUB

– Heritage Mission and Values –

Our Heritage

Every day, the deer HUB team go to work to do three things: develop confident and skilled deer stalkers, deliver structured, organised and effective deer management to landowners, farmers and wildlife trusts and promote the benefits of delicious and nutritious venison to all

It was true when the Deer HUB was formed, and it’s just as true today.
Every idea starts with a problem.
In 2015, James Mott (the Deer HUB’s founder and CEO) started offering deer stalking sessions to UK customers and quickly discovered 3 fundamental problems.
Firstly, the customers were mostly beginners with little or no practical rifle handling skills for deer stalking.
Secondly, they had few or no fieldcraft skills which made locating and stalking deer very challenging.
And thirdly, when asked, majority wanted to take deer home to butcher/process the venison themselves but with limited skills this was impossible.
The solution to the deer stalkers problem(s)? Training – so we set to it.
Initially, James Mott developed a comprehensive deer stalker ‘Foundation Skills’ training course which had a tremendous take up. Over time, other training, courses and in-field training were developed to upskill our deer stalking customers.
But landowners, farmers and wildlife trusts also had a serious problem; with the British deer population at its highest for 1,000 years, deer over-population has led to significant ecological/crop-yield impacts with no viable working model to reduce deer numbers to sustainable levels.
The solution for landowners, farmers and wildlife trusts? A comprehensive deer management program – So we set to it.
Today, the Deer HUB has upskilled over 1,000 deer stalkers and alongside the ‘Deer Partnership Scheme’ initiative, we continue to train our stalkers and deliver managed and effective deer management in the UK with skilled deer stalkers competent to butcher and process their own venison.
